The Lydia Maria Child Society (LMCS) is pleased to announce that we are accepting nominations for our 2025 Lydia Maria Child Social Justice Awards for Community Work.
This year, we are honoring those working to make a difference in their communities (including community leaders, artists, organizers, educators, students, librarians, or other professionals). The Lydia Maria Child Society encourages nominations of those who have developed or participated in community outreach that address pressing social causes and/or projects that promote a society in which all voices are heard and recognized.
Please see the full call below for more information and please share the attached call widely. Nominations are due by June 1st.
Call for Nominations: 2025 Lydia Maria Child Social Justice Awards for Community Work
In keeping with the Lydia Maria Child Society’s goal of honoring and continuing Child’s legacy, the Society is pleased to recognize individuals who create social change through community work in areas such as advocacy, activism, art, creative projects, service, or educational endeavors. To honor Lydia Maria Child’s tireless advocacy for a more just world, the LMCS will make two awards to those working to make a difference in their communities (including community leaders, artists, organizers, educators, students, librarians, or other professionals). The Lydia Maria Child Society encourages nominations of those who have developed or participated in community outreach that address pressing social causes and/or projects that promote a society in which all voices are heard and recognized.
To apply for this award or to nominate someone from your community, please submit a two-page letter detailing the ways in which your own or your nominee’s community work engages with current social justice concerns, while noting the impact and the desired scope of the work.
Please email the letter to lydiamariachildsociety@gmail.com with “Social Justice Award” as the subject line of your email by June 1, 2025. Please be as specific as possible about the kinds of community outreach, creative projects, or educational endeavors in which the nominee has been engaged; the scope and impact of that work; and the nominee’s commitment to creating a more just society.
Winners will receive a monetary award of $100 and will be featured in our society’s newsletter or other programming.
Those who have been nominated in the past but have not received the award are welcome to reapply. Please note as well that this is a biennial award: in alternating calendar years, the Lydia Maria Child Society will switch between this award for community work and one recognizing academic work. Please look for the call for nominations for Social Justice Awards in Academic Work in 2026 and for Community Work again in 2027.
