CFP Roundtable for Teaching and Pedagogy Roundtable:
Using The Toni Morrison Book Club in the Teaching of Toni Morrison’s Fiction.
Submission Deadline: February 1, 2021
Toni Morrison has been chosen as the conference touchstone for “American Women Writings: Ecologies, Survival, Change” because “her works powerfully remind us that humans, however implicated in damaging structures, can also resist them through networks that sustain and transform.”
In The Toni Morrison Book Club (U Wisconsin P, 2020), Juda Bennett, Winifred Brown-Glaude, Cassandra Jackson, and Piper Kendrix Williams share their love and respect for Morrison’s work in courageously personal essays. As humans (Black and White; female and male, hetero and gay) and as teachers they provide insights from their readings of Morrison, showing how her novels can help us negotiate or challenge contemporary ecologies of our world and to imagine alternative ones.
Teachers of Morrison’s fiction are invited to consider ways they might use this collection of essays in their courses.
If interested in being a presenter at this roundtable, please submit a proposal of 150-200 words, with a brief biographical paragraph (approx 50 wds). Email as a pdf attachment to Jane A. Rose (janerose@usf.edu) by February 1, 2021.
