CFP for Panel: Women Writers of the Progressive Era at SSAWW 2021 Conference

Submission Deadline: January 18, 2021

“Ecologies, Survival, Change” celebrates the many women across the Americas whose creative work fosters survival and envisions change by exploring the systems in which we live, labor and love. Perhaps no group of writers was more clearly focused on this agenda than those of the Progressive Era (1890-1920). This period of social activism, political reform, and radically changing mores enabled women to participate in the public sphere as never before.

This panel will explore the multiple ways women writers of the Progressive Era affected and were affected by the spirit of this era in any of the ways suggested by the conference CFP:

· Foster survival and envisions change

· Illuminate crises that make the ecologies that constitute our worlds

· Represent existing ecologies and imagines alternative ecologies

· Resist nativist discourses of contagion and national peril

· Represent systemic barriers to social justice and routes to achieving it

· Explore the role of writing in emotional recovery from systemic oppression

· Address women’s engagement with ecologies of print culture

If interested in being a presenter on this panel, please submit a proposal of 250-300 words, with a brief biographical paragraph (approx 50 wds). Email as a pdf attachment to Jane A. Rose (janerose@usf.edu) by Monday January 18, 2021.
