Dear SSAWW colleagues–

Professor Eagan Dean and I are pleased to launch a mutual aid teaching exchange called “I Will Teach It for You”–as part of a broader collective project in support of free inquiry. I can’t describe it any better than Eagan, so let me whet your interest with the first paragraph of his beautiful call:

“In collaboration with the Margaret Fuller Society, the Thoreau Society, Transcendental Concord, and a range of public thinkers and scholars, we invite you to adopt and share texts that are being censored or threatened. This mutual aid teaching exchange invites cultural workers in secure regions or positions to carry forward the intellectual passions of their colleagues who face political repression. We also aim to build a supportive community across regions and professions to support colleagues working under such restriction.”

For details, please jump right into the attached document.

The extent to which this initiative provides real help to real people in deeply difficult times depends on wide sharing and participation. Please take part yourself (Eagan has made it easy through the document’s links), and circulate the call to every group and individual you can think of. I’m going to share it with embattled librarian and historical society friends in my home state of Idaho.

We will share progress-to-date at ALA in late May on SSAWW’s panel and at our business meeting.
