2025 SSAWW Conference Extended Deadline and Leadership Announcement

We are living in unprecedented times. Because we read literature, we know that we are not the first to see the world on fire. But literature also shows us that coming together with others can sustain us. SSAWW has always been a community of scholars and teachers, and in these hard times coming together, face to face, energizes and empowers us.

So that more people can still join together at the conference, we are extending the deadline for our “25 Years of SSAWW” November 2025 Conference until March 16, 2025. If you have not yet submitted a proposal, please consider doing so. Our conference will be a time to talk and strategize with colleagues about how our research and scholarly passions can help guide us through this moment. Reach out to your networks, and let’s use SSAWW’s conference as an opportunity to come together in Philadelphia in the fall.

SSAWW Leadership Announcement

The SSAWW Officers and Advisory Board also want to announce that our President, María Carla Sánchez, has decided to step back from her role as president.  The Advisory Board has appointed Jordan Von Cannon Co-President until the November 2025 SSAWW conference. We thank Maria for her service to SSAWW and appreciate her agreeing to remain a Co-President since conference arrangements have been made in her name.

We look forward to the upcoming conference elections. We will be accepting nominations for President, Vice President of Organizational Matters, and Vice President of Publications. Further details will be forthcoming from the Nominations Elections Committee this summer.
